NVIDIA's RTX 30 Series graphics cards are still in short supply. This hasn't prevented speculation about the next generation of GPUs, as well as the Intel Bitcoin Mining ASIC, and how it would affect Ethereum mining.

NVIDIA has failed to confirm or even admit the existence of any future RTX 40 Series GPU. This makes calculating the RTX 40 Series' crypto mining performance or hash rate difficult.


Given the variety of devices within a single RTX Series, the RTX 3090, with its 114 MH/s hash rate, is expected to surpass multiple next-generation cards.


The RTX 40 Series will gain the same performance boost over its predecessor as the RTX 30 Series did over the 20 Series, according to Twitter leaker @TtLexington (via TechAdvisor).


While this may not immediately correlate to crypto mining speed, it does allow us to calculate a possible hash rate.


If the hash rate of the RTX 2080 is 40 MH/s and the hash rate of the RTX 3080 is 100 MH/s, the difference is 60 MH/s or 150 %. The RTX 2070, on the other hand, has a hash rate of 40 MH/s, compared to 62 MH/s for the RTX 3070. This is an increase of 22 MH/s, or little more than 50%.


Because of the differences amongst cards, the hash rate changes for the RTX 40 Series will not follow a consistent pattern. Based on the figures above, an RTX 4080 should have a hash rate of roughly 150 MH/s. The hash rate of the RTX 4070 might be approximately 80 MH/s.


However, according to YouTuber Moore is Dead, the 40 Series might consume up to 600 watts of electricity. This is significantly more than the 350W required by the RTX 3080. If these power usage figures are correct, mining profitability may increase.


However, there is another consideration to be made.


Will there be Crypto Mining LHR Limits on the RTX 40 Series?


NVIDIA would prefer that its GPUs be utilized for gaming instead of cryptocurrency mining. Hash rate limits were imposed on all-new RTX 3070, 3080, and 3060 Ti GPUs earlier this year as a result of this. The Lite Hash Rate (LHR) identification is now included with these GPUs.


The RTX 3080 LHR and RTX 3070 LHR have rates of 70 MH/s and 46 MH/s, respectively, according to Hashrate.no. For the LHR models, this represents a decrease of 26-30%.


We don't know if the LHR limits will be implemented on the RTX 40 Series by NVIDIA. However, GPU supply continues to be hampered by component shortages. Due to the shortages, NVIDIA may choose to discourage miners from acquiring these cards using LHR.


According to current rumors, the RTX 40 Series will be released in late 2022. Ethereum mining, on the other hand, maybe obsolete by then.


Proof-of-stake will be used instead of proof-of-work when Ethereum 2.0 is released. This will eliminate the need for miners on the Ethereum network, instead of relying on Ethereum staking for validation. While this was supposed to be out in mid-2022, delays have led to speculation that it may come out later, possibly even after the RTX 40 Series.
