Based on a new monocoque chassis, the Toyota Innova HyCross is expected to be powered by a new petrol/hybrid engine.
A brand-new iteration of the hugely successful Innova MPV is apparently being developed by Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and is anticipated to be unveiled in the near future before going on sale in the first few months of 2019. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder is about to be introduced to the domestic market by the Japanese manufacturer.
The segment-first features in the five-seater midsize SUV, which was just presented, include an AWD system built into a hybrid engine, a powerful hybrid powertrain with a specific EV-only mode, etc. Toyota is also working on the next-generation Fortuner, which is anticipated to make its world debut later this year before hitting showrooms in other countries the following year.
India should therefore receive it anytime in the upcoming year. The current Innova Crysta, a more expensive replacement for the previous model, has been available for purchase from 2016. The following model will push the envelope even further because it is expected to have a new monocoque chassis (TNGA-C based) and convert to a conventional FWD MPV.
It is anticipated to be known as the Innova HyCross, and the prefix "Hy" may refer to its hybrid design. Toyota might use a hybrid system that combines a 2.0-liter Atkinson Cycle TNGA gasoline engine with a sizable battery bank and an electric motor. It is done to make the MPV more fuel-efficient and in response to the tougher pollution rules in effect worldwide.
Despite being based on a new platform, the third-generation Toyota Innova may have a high level of local content because the venerable IMV architecture will be retired. However, due to its strong demand, the current Innova Crysta is expected to keep doing its tasks and won't be retired suddenly. The Innova range may continue to grow, according to this.
The wheelbase length might be extended by about 100 mm, and it might share a lot with the Corolla Cross, which is built on the same platform. The JDM-spec MPVs are anticipated to have a big influence on the exterior design. With the inclusion of top-tier safety, connection, comfort, and convenience technologies, the inside will also be more upscale.
