Future Maruti Grand Vitara midsize SUV will have two hybrid petrol engines and be equipped with connected technology and top-notch safety features.
On July 20, 2022, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) will debut a brand-new midsize SUV that it co-developed with Toyota. It has been given the name Grand Vitara and is based on the recently unveiled Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It will go up against a variety of midsize SUVs, such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Nissan Kicks, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, etc.
More likely than not, the next Grand Vitara will replace the S-Cross, which has been in production since late 2015. The Grand Vitara will serve as the new flagship SUV from the brand, and there are very strong reasons for it, despite the crossover gaining a new generation in Europe. It will be a worldwide SUV like the Hyryder because export markets will be prioritized, and it might take the place of the Vitara soon.
The largest automaker in the nation released the S-Cross as its first Nexa model, and the facelift it received in 2017 significantly boosted sales. However, as more contemporary competitors have entered the midsize SUV sector recently, the volume numbers have not been particularly outstanding.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be offered through the Nexa network of upscale dealerships, much like the S-Cross. The Toyota Hyryder and the five-seater will both be going into mass production at TKM's plant in Bidadi, Karnataka, starting next month. The Vitara will be on sale after the Hyryder's price is revealed.
The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is expected to share the same Global C platform as the global Vitara and Brezza. It will be powered by a 1.5-liter K15C four-cylinder DualJet mild-hybrid gasoline engine and an all-new 1.5-liter TNGA Atkinson Cycle strong hybrid gasoline engine from Toyota, both of which are capable of producing close to 115 PS at their maximum output.
Similar to the Toyota, the MSIL-sourced K15C mill will have a maximum output of 103 PS and a maximum torque of 135 Nm. It will be mated to either a five-speed MT or a six-speed AT. It's important to note that the Vitara might have the same setup as the Hyryder since the latter will be offered with an AWD system.
