Mercedes-Benz has announced that the EQS 580 4Matic will be on sale in India on September 21. This comes shortly after the debut of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+. As the AMG version and the other Mercedes EV in India, the EQC, were imported as CBUs, this will be the first Mercedes EV to be constructed in India.

The EQS is the first vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz lineup to be supported by the specialized EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform, according to Martin Schwenk, MD, and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, who made the statement to Autocar India in January. A special manufacturing line with updated hardware will be needed for this.

It will be a first for the factory, which presently exclusively produces a wide range of internal combustion engine items, to build the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4Matic.

The dual-motor configuration of the EQS 580, which was globally launched last year, produces 523 horsepower and 856 Nm of torque. With a 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery, it has a WLTP cycle range of up to 770km.

The most expensive EV, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+, was introduced in India on August 24 and costs Rs 2.45 crore (ex-showroom, India). A dual-motor setup that can generate up to 761 horsepower and 1020 Nm of torque is also available for the AMG EQS 53. It features a 107.8kWh battery, the same as the EQS 580, but a reduced range of up to 586km on a single charge.
